2014 Nez Perce Tribe Season Notices For Sturgeon & Other Species

Pursuant to the Nez Perce Tribal Code Section 3-1-11, the Nez Perce Tribe Fish and Wildlife Commission has the authority to promulgate annual and seasonal hunting and fishing regulations and prescribe the manner and methods which may be used in taking fish and wildlife.  Pursuant to that authority, the Nez Perce Fish and Wildlife Commission adopted the following fishing regulation for the Nez Perce Tribe.

  The Dalles Pool Commercial Sturgeon Setline Opening
6PM November 29 tthrough 11:59PM December 31, 2014 (unless otherwise promulgated by the NPTFWC)


Gear:  Set line gear.  Fishers are encouraged to use circle hooks and avoid J hooks.

ALLOWABLE SALES:  Sturgeon 43-54 inch fork length.  Sturgeon within the legal size limits and caught in platform and hook and line fishery in The Dalles Pool only may also be sold if caught during the open periods of the set line fishery.  Sales of fish caught during the open commercial periods may be sold after the season.

Sanctuaries:   All standard river mouth and dam sanctuaries relevant to the Nez Perce Tribe remain in effect for this fishery.

 

ZONE 6 PLATFORM HOOK AND LINE fisheries will remain open through 6PM December 31 for both commercial and subsistence purposes under rules adopted previously.  The platform and hook and line fishery remains open for subsistence use at any time unless otherwise promulgated by the NPTFWC.

 

FISHING BELOW BONNEVILLE REMAINS CLOSED UNLESS PROMULGATED BY THE NPTEC.

ALLOWABLE SALES:  All salmon, including chinook & sockeye, steelhead, shad, walleye, carp, catfish, bass, and yellow perch may be sold or kept for subsistence purposes. Fish landed during open periods are allowed to be sold after the period concludes.  Sturgeon may NOT be sold, but Sturgeon between 43-54 inches fork length in The Dalles and John Day pools may be retained only for subsistence use. Sturgeon between 38-54 inches fork length in the Bonneville Pool may also be retained only for subsistence use.

Sanctuaries:   All standard river mouth and dam sanctuaries relevant to the Nez Perce Tribe remain in effect for this fishery.

Zone 6 Platform and Hook and Line Fishery: Fish harvested in the Zone 6 platform and hook and line fisheries during times when commercial gillnet fishing occurs in that pool are allowed to be sold. The allowed species for sale are the same as the gillnet fishery. The same size limits for sturgeon gillnet fishery also apply to the Zone 6 platform and hook and line fishery.  Platform and hook and line fishing for subsistence purposes is allowed in all of Zone 6.

Sturgeon Winter Gillnet Commerical Fishery in the John Day Pool

Size Limit for retention of sturgeon in the Bonneville Pool will Expand between 38 inches to 54 inches fork length effective 6AM March 1st In the Bonneville Pool Closure effective 6PM, March 12th.

In The Dalles Pool will temporarily close effective 6PM, March 3rd & will reopen 6AM March 13th and The Dalles Pool will Close 6PM, March 22nd.

Gear: No gear restrictions.

Allowable Sales for Bonneville & The Dalles Pools: Sturgeon between 43 inches and 54 inches fork length in The Dalles Pool and between 38 inches and 54 inches in Bonneville Pool may be sold or kept for subsistence during open commercial fishing periods may be sold or retained for subsistence.  Salmon, steelhead, walleye, shad, carp, catfish, bass and yellow perch may also be sold. Tribal fishers are reminded to use their first salmon in an appropriate traditional manner.  The regulations for the winter gillnet fisheries in the Bonneville and The Dalles Pools remain unchanged at this time including the allowable sales.

Sanctuaries: All standard river mouth and dam sanctuaries for the Nez Perce Tribe shall remain in effect.

Zone 6 Platform and Hook and Line Fishery: Fish harvested in the Zone 6 platform and hook and line fisheries during times when commercial gillnet fishing occurs in that pool are allowed to be sold. The allowed species for sale are the same as the gillnet fishery. The same size limits for sturgeon gillnet fishery also apply to the Zone 6 platform and hook and line fishery.  Platform and hook and line fishing for subsistence purposes is allowed in all of Zone 6.

No Fisheries Downstream of Bonneville: Fish harvested in the Zone 6 platform and hook and line fisheries during times when commercial gillnet fishing occurs in that pool are allowed to be sold. The allowed species for sale are the same as the gillnet fishery. The same size limits for sturgeon gillnet fishery also apply to the Zone 6 platform and hook and line fishery. Platform and hook and line fishing for subsistence purposes is allowed in all of Zone 6.

Gear: Standard set line gear is required. Hook Size must be 9/0 or larger.  Fishers are encouraged to use circle hooks and avoid J-Hooks.

Allowable Sales:  Sales are restricted to Sturgeon only. Sturgeon between 43-54 inches fork length in The Dalles and John Day pools may be sold or retained for subsistence use. Sturgeon between 38-54 inches fork length in the Bonneville pool may also be sold or retained for subsistence use. Salmon and steelhead may not be sold but may be retained for Subsistence. Platform caught sturgeon of legal size in the pool they are caught may be sold during open commercial period.

Sanctuaries: All standard river mouth and dam sanctuaries for the Nez Perce Tribe shall remain in effect.

Pursuant to the Nez Perce Tribal Code Section 3-1-11, the Nez Perce Tribe Fish and Wildlife Commission has the authority to promulgate annual and seasonal hunting and fishing regulations and prescribe the manner and methods which may be used in taking fish and wildlife.  Pursuant to that authority, the Nez Perce Fish and Wildlife Commission adopted the following fishing regulation for the Nez Perce Tribe.

LAMPREY/EEL SEASON OPENING
 
June 9th through July 31st, 2014
  7AM to 7PM, Fridays through Mondays*


 

Area:  East side of the falls east of the horseshoe, Willamette Falls, Oregon

Date of Opening:  June 9 through July 31, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Fridays through Mondays *or as opportunity allows when flashboards are installed.  Contact the Nez Perce Tribe Fish and Wildlife Commission or the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission for information on flashboard activity.

Gear:  Hand or hand-powered tools only.

Bag Limit:  No daily or seasonal bag limit.

NO SALES OF LAMPREY/EELS AND USE OF LAMPREY/EELS AS BAIT IS PROHIBITED.

This regulation notice serves a permit for Nez Perce fishers; however, you will need a copy of this regulation while fishing for lamprey/eels at Willamette Falls as well as your enrollment identification card.  You can request a copy of this regulation/permit by contacting the NPTFWC or Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fisheries Enforcement offices.  A written or verbal harvest report must be provided to the NPTFWC no later than 4PM August 4, 2014.

Nez Perce Tribal fishers shall comply with all sections of the Nez Perce Tribal Code and regulations pertaining to this fishery.
